HILMAR HIGH VARSITY FOOTBALL PREVIEW

HILMAR HIGH VARSITY FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Hilmar Yellowjackets 2011 varsity football team.

POSTED August 23, 2011 9:48 p.m.

2010 record: 4-2 TVL, 6-5 overall

Head coach: Frank Marques (9th year)

Assistants: George Stavrianoudakis, Craig Handy, Scott Sousa, Nick Casey, Jack Handy, Adam Komos

Top returners: Andrew Olson, Kyle Silva, Garrett Jericoff, Tyler Silva, Ryan White, Jonathan O’Brien, Zack Giuliano, Austin Almeida, Anthony Diaz, Corey Bayer, Tyler Juncker, Austin Jones

Newcomers: Tyler Freitas, Jesse Burk, Victor Teixeira, Ryan Oliviera, Jesus Izazaga

Outlook: The Yellowjackets look very promising, especially with returning 18 starters and a healthy quarterback in Andrew Olson, who missed seven games last season because of a broken arm. With so much experience and talent, this group is reminiscent of the 2008 Yellowjackets team that won the Sac-Joaquin Section title. The offensive line is back, talented receivers and defenders and the Yellowjackets have players like Garrett Jericoff, Zack Giuliano and Ryan White who will see a lot of field time. The Yellowjackets have also dedicated the season to Franky Silveira, the beloved assistant coach who suddenly passed away during the summer.
