PITMAN HIGH VARSITY FOOTBALL PREVIEW

PITMAN HIGH VARSITY FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Pitman Pride 2011 varsity football team.

POSTED August 23, 2011 9:52 p.m.

2010 record: 3-2 CCC, 7-4 overall

Head coach: Brandon Harris (6th year)

Assistants: Anthony Armas, Jason Avelar, Rich Backar, Don Curtiss, Dustin Curtiss, Jon Derr, Anthony Harding, Spenser Hopkins, David May, Thad Moren, Ivan Palomino, Jerry Passarelli, Eric Reza, Brant Rose, Kris Shaw, Spenser Snodgrass, Braden Sweeney, Robert Thomas, Brett Tyler, Tom Tyler, Chris Wolfley

Top returners: AJ Derr, Dakota Selfridge, Ivan Delgado, Ken Acasio, Andres Mendez, Andrew Aprim, Eliroy Eiasvi

Top newcomers: Kody Brackett, Brent Nelle, Zach Olsen, Brennan Hauser, Kyle Martinez, Diego Camorlinga

Outlook: This year’s Pitman squad looks stronger, faster and more cohesive than a year ago. Though they only return three starters, the Pride have plenty of new varsity kids who will step in and help continue the program’s winning tradition. Pitman hasn’t had a losing season since the school began varsity football in 2002, highlighted by the fact that the Pride have made five playoff appearances in the process. It doesn’t hurt that they have last year’s starting QB, AJ Derr, to guide an offensive unit with a strong stable of running backs who are coached by Anthony Harding, a Pitman graduate and former Fresno State player. The Pride will continue to run the wing-T offense, as the defense is anchored by linebacker Dakota Selfridge — as he has the tools and knowledge to make an impact.
