So far so good for Pitman High’s volleyball team who bested Golden Valley High 3-1 (19-25, 25-13, 25-20, and 25-20) on Thursday to start the season 2-0.

The matchup between the Pride and Cougars was very similar to Tuesday’s win over Merced High where Pitman opened by dropping the first game. As with Tuesday’s game Pitman quickly recollected itself on Thursday, showing Golden Valley why its girls are defending Central California Conference champions.

“We’re adjusting to different things that these teams are running since it’s the first time playing them,” Pitman’s head coach Kristen Pontes said. “We’ve worked so hard with condition I feel like the other teams are fading and we’re staying strong as the matches go on.”

Lindsey Vander Weide led Pitman with 17 kills while Maddy Halteman recorded 30 assists and Moriah Halteman notched 4 aces. Defensively, Melina Gonzalez stationed the net with 3 blocks and Sierrah Miller ended the day with 13 digs.

“We’re improving and that’s all that matters,” Pontes said. “The CCC had a lot of strength and talent so we’re not overlooking any team.”

As it stands Pitman is the only undefeated team in the league. All other CCC teams are 1-1 with the exception of Turlock who had yet to enter the winner’s column. Pitman remains at home next week playing Buhach Colony High on Tuesday and Atwater High on Thursday.
