Hilmar continues to struggle; falls to Riverbank

POSTED September 18, 2012 9:40 p.m.

Hilmar High is still trying to put the pieces together in the Trans Valley League. The Yellowjackets’ personnel woes led to a 1-7 loss to Riverbank High on Monday, continuing their trend of ineffective defense.

“We had our moments but we keep making the same mistakes,” Hilmar High’s head coach Louie Bettencourt said.

Hilmar’s primary area of concern is at the goalie position where first time keepers Will de la Torre and Nino Ta-a are still competing for the starting position. Unfortunately for the ‘Jackets, on field development rarely translates into victories, especially at such an important position. Still, Bettencourt is holding out hope that his squad will develop in time to salvage their TVL campaign.

“Hopefully, as games go on they’ll make better decisions and pick up more of the game,” Bettencourt said.

Hilmar gets a shot at victory today at home against Orestimba High, a team that is currently on par with the ‘Jackets. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
