POSTED October 10, 2017 11:00 p.m.

Turlock High’s varsity girls golf team is off to a 10-0 start in the Central California Conference after toppling Merced High 245-290.

“We played well today,” said Turlock head coach Mary Krupka. “Though the Merced gals hit some nice shots, Preeth and Ainslie took charge and we handled Merced fairly easily.”

Ainslie Coughran shot the lowest round of the day with a 45, while Preeth Singh followed with a score of 46.

Courtney Malmberg shot a 50, Sarah Musselman shot a 51 and Brooke Adams finished with a 53.

“We will have a nice match in Atwater on Thursday versus Buhach. We want to finish strong by winning Thursday and next Tuesday,” Krupka added.

Pitman boys polo tops Golden Valley

The Pitman Pride varsity boys water polo team captured its second league victory of the year after defeating the Golden Valley Cougars 12-11 on Monday afternoon.

Head coach Colin Wenstrand was excited for his team’s ability to double last year’s total league victories already with four league games left.

Pitman’s Ethan Woodruff finished with a team-high six goals, while Andree Shields added five goals. Nolan Lok also added a goal for Pitman.

Pride sophomore goalkeeper Garrett Willson finished with a staggering 21 saves.

“Yes 21,” said Wenstrand. “About 10 to 12 saves is considered a great game.”

Pitman will next take on Merced on the road at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
