Pitman’s Verschelden inks with Argonauts

POSTED April 15, 2011 10:42 p.m.

For Hannah Verschelden, all she needs is one shot.

She is, after all, one of Pitman High’s girls soccer forwards, so she knows what she can do when the ball is near her feet. But it’s beyond that. Notre Dame de Namur University, a Division II school in Belmont, only saw one game film of Verschelden, and that was more than enough for the Argonauts to make a scholarship offer to play women’s soccer when school starts in the fall.

“They hadn’t been watching me play for awhile,” Verschelden said, “so they’re expecting me to help their team out, but I’m going to show them more of what I can do. I want to surprise them a little more.”

So far this season, Verschelden is one reason why the Pride have been so successful, as they own a 17-4-1 overall record and are 10-1-1 in the Central California Conference. She has recorded 10 goals and eight assists.

Pitman’s next game is at Debely Stadium on Tuesday, when the Pride take on Atwater High at 7 p.m.
