PREP ROUNDUP

TC golf wins 8th straight title

POSTED April 15, 2011 10:43 p.m.

This was like waking up and expecting daylight.

Turlock Christian boys golf team did it again, as the Eagles captured the Southern League Championships on Wednesday afternoon after topping Gustine High with a score of 228-328 to complete a perfect 8-0 mark. It was TC’s eight consecutive league title.

The Eagles were led by two girls, as they compete with the boys because Turlock Christian does not have a girls team. Sisters Kathleen and Esther Rojas shot a 40 and 45, respectively, at Stevinson Ranch, while they were followed closely by Thomas Sawyer (47), Kyle Cederlind (48) and Chase Ulrich (48).

On Tuesday, the Eagles topped Mariposa High 214-237, with Kathleen Rojas finishing with the day’s best score of 37.

On Tuesday, the Eagles will travel to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina to play in the Palmetto High School Golf Championships before competing in the Southern League Tournament on May 2 at Diablo Grande.

TC soccer finally gets win

The Turlock Christian girls soccer notched its first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon after beating Denair 2-1, thanks to goals by Natalie Snyder and Arin Morelli. Vicki Zylstra finished with an assist.

For Denair, Alyssa Villa finished with a goal.

The Eagles are a young squad with nine sophomores, two juniors and one freshman, with only two seniors.

“The girls have been more and more competitive as the season goes on but with only one sub, it is wearing on them,” TC coach Shirley Brand said. “I'm proud to be their coach. They will be a force to be reckoned with these next two years if they stay together.”
