Former Stanislaus pitcher signs with Royals

POSTED June 14, 2011 6:54 p.m.

Andrew Stueve, who recently wrapped up a stellar season with Cal State Stanislaus baseball, has signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals.
This past season Stueve was an All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selection and an All-West region selection after posting a 6-2 record with an impressive 2.46 ERA. He held opponents to just a .219 batting average in 95 innings of pitching.
Stueve reported to Arizona on Saturday and will most likely be sent to the Idaho Falls Chukars, the short-season Single-A affiliate of the Royals. He is the fifth Stanislaus pitcher to sign on with a major league club in the last four years.
