Warriors volleyball handles nonconference foe

POSTED September 9, 2011 10:24 p.m.

For the second time in a week, the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team easily took down William Jessup in straight sets, this time with scores of 25-9, 25-11, 25-17.
In the team's home opener, Stanislaus was led by senior Lianne Vicchio, who finished with 13 kills. She also had seven digs and three aces as the Warriors improved to 3-0 leading up to this weekend’s California Collegiate Athletic Association matches.

Warriors coach Christina Lore was able to go deeper into her bench and played a total of 12 players after the Warriors took the first two sets with ease.
The Warriors had little trouble getting out of the gate in the first set, quickly running up to a 15-5 lead after six straight Vicchio serves that included three aces. Jacqueline Moore-DesLauriers capped the rally to end the set at 25-9.
After taking the second 25-11, the Warriors employed some of the subs, including a change at setter with Sarah Blume to spill Jessica Lehner. Blume earned 12 assists in the third set as Stanislaus put away 15 of the night's 39 kills during that span. Lehner had 18 assists.
Eva Chafeh and Melissa Bishop each chipped in six kills. Bishop also put up three total blocks with two solo. Libero Madison Moss had 11 digs and Kayla Giles also had three aces with seven digs to contribute to the victory.
William Jessup (0-11) was led by Charlotte McCarra and Sara Hickenbottom each with five kills.
