With a tournament-low round of 276 and four under-par scores, the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team blew away the field to win the 40th annual Western Washington Invitational on Saturday in Bellingham, Wash.
Led by senior Trevor Blair, who won medalist honors with a blazing 9-under 135 total, the Warriors captured the tournament title with a 13-under 563 total in the 36-hole tournament. Cal State Stanislaus, the 17th best team in the country, beat the second-place finisher Saint Martin’s by 21 strokes.
“I'm really excited how the team chemistry is shaping up this year,” Warriors coach John Cook said. “I am extremely proud of Trevor for winning his first collegiate tournament.”
Blair, who entered Saturday in first place after a six-under 66 the previous day, shot a 69 for the win. He finished six shots ahead of four players at 3-under for the tournament.

Chris McCracken had the low round on the day with a 67 to finish 2-under 142 for sixth. Both Rob Damschen and freshman Paul Smith finished with 1-under 143s for eighth to place four Warriors in the top eight. Damschen carded a 71 and Smith a 69 on Saturday.

The Warriors remained in the Northwest, where they managed one round despite heavy rain and high winds during the first day of the Saint Martin’s Invitational on Monday in Olympia, Wash.

Vorderbruegge clocks top time for Stanislaus

Cal State Stanislaus men’s cross country runner Dawson Vorderbruegge was among the top college distance runners in Saturday’s Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto.
Vorderbruegge finished the 8,000-meter course in 24 minutes, 47 seconds — his best recorded time in the event — to lead Stanislaus. He finished tied for 30th.

The winner was Stanford's Chris Derrick, who finished in 23:15.

For the women’s 6K race, Marina Ghabbour was the top Warrior after finishing in 23:07 for 142nd place out of 278 runners.

Warriors soccer falls to Otters

For their second straight trip to Seaside, the Stanislaus men’s soccer team did not come up with a positive result. Cal State Monterey Bay defeated Stanislaus 2-0.
The Warriors ended their two-match winning streak on the road, as they dropped to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
