Stanislaus golf misses national cut

The Cal State Stanislaus men’s golf team just couldn’t move out of the 10th spot all week at the NCAA Division II West/Central Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M.

With a 299 in Wednesday’s third and final round, the Warriors finished 23-over par 887 to settle for 10th place out of 20 teams at the tournament held at the par 72, 7,351-yard Championship Course on the campus of the University of New Mexico.

No. 10 Cal State Monterey Bay won its fifth consecutive tournament title to capture the West Region championship. The Otters shot a 7-under to finish a scorching 9-under 855. No. 12 Sonoma State, Fort Lewis, Colorado State-Pueblo and Hawaii Hilo all finished in the top five.

The top five teams advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships in Florence, Ala., with the top two individuals not attached to a team also moving on.

Trevor Blair led the Warriors in the three-day tournament, as the junior finished tied for 11th. He was even-par for the event, one shot from a playoff spot.

Teddy Schrier had the best day on Wednesday for the Warriors, but he finished 28th overall. J.T. Cockerill and Chris McCracken both shot 227 for the tournament. Andre Navarro (237) rounded out the Stanislaus team.

Keith Okasaki of UC San Diego and Kyle Souze of Chico State both advanced as individual players.
