POSTED July 17, 2012 10:03 p.m.

The Delhi Boxing Club continued its streak of competition on Saturday, pitting two of its fighters against boxers from Sacramento and Gilroy during San Jose P.A.L.’s 2nd annual Family Fest.

First time fighter, Sandra Tovar, faced off against Melissa Monroy of Sacramento’s Caballero Gym at 70 pounds in the second bout of the night. The two 10-year-old girls came out swinging at the opening bell and continued their pace through three rounds, much to the crowd’s delight. Tovar came up short in a close decision, due in part to a standing eight count in the second round.

Marco Valladares participated in his second amateur bout against Danny Valle of Gilroy. Although Valle landed a couple hard punches in the beginning of round one, Valladares took control of the fight by the round’s end with heavy handed shots to the body and head. Valladares scored a standing eight count in the first round with a body shot and then continued to dish out punishment in the second round, prompting the referee to stop the fight and award Valladares the win via TKO.
