The Stanislaus County Fair asked visitors to “imagine the fun” this year but many opted to experience the fun instead, and nowhere was that more evident than in the Food Maxx Arena. During the fair’s 10-day run spectators witnessed two destruction derbies, monster trucks, freestyle motocross and flat track events — but the concluding night of motor sports was arguably the most fun.

On Sunday, the Mudbog and Lawn Mower races marked the end of the 2012 Stanislaus County Fair as children, teenagers, and adults got down and dirty on the track for some old fashioned fun. Competitors took part in two classes of Lawn Mower Racing, modified and stock, as well as four classes of Mudbogs, Rhino/Rangers, stock, super stock, and modified.

Denair’s brother-sister duo of Bryant and Celena Desaire found themselves taking first and second place, respectively, in the Rhino/Rangers Mudbog events. Celena nearly defeated her brother in the final but she was unable to drive through the mud as she had earlier against Oakdale’s Cameron Bettencourt.

Another local driver, Ethan Baker of Turlock, also claimed a first place finish. Baker beat out a competitive field in the stock class of Mudbogs as Groveland’s Dawn Miller finished second and Modesto’s Chris Estrella came in third.

In addition to the races and mud, fans were treated with unique vehicles like a lifted limousine with monster truck tires and tricked out lawnmowers with more horsepower than any lawn could handle.
