Supporting local veterans

POSTED June 5, 2012 9:02 p.m.

On May 14-19 American Legion members, auxiliary, and Boy Scout Troop #21 (Doug Leung, leader) distributed poppies in exchange for donations to be used one-hundred percent for veterans and their families in need. The people in Turlock and surrounding areas, along with the veterans themselves, were generous in their giving, and we appreciate each and every one of you for your generosity.

What a rewarding experience, talking to so many who served our country in past and present wars. When they share their stories, they speak with pride of their years of service to our country, and the places where they were stationed, as they should. I enjoyed talking to them.

Our veterans deserve all the praise and honor that we can give them, for they have given us a precious gift — FREEDOM — that can only be repaid by giving back to all of those who have served.

God bless America!
