This year Christmas is coming into town with a little bit of twang, as the Center for Urban Performance and Service and Westside Ministries stages “City Lights, Country Nights.”

The full-length musical comedy is an original production written by Westside Ministries Director JoLynn DiGrazia and stars a cast of more than 200 dancers and actors from preschool age on up.

The Christmas pageant is an annual tradition for Westside Ministries and CUPS, but this year’s production is taking it to a new level according to Lydio Banana, the youth director at Westside Ministries.

“It’s much grander than the shows we’ve done before,” Banana said.

“City Lights, Country Nights” will take the audience on a holiday journey from the big lights of New York to the small town charm of Pickle Fork, West Virginia. The show features songs from the popular Christmas movie “Elf” as well as some classic Christmas carols from top Country and Pop albums.

The show will take the stage at the Turlock Community Theatre at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free, though an offering will be requested.

Prior to the shows the organization will host two silent auctions, with proceeds benefiting the Community Cultivators 4-H club.
