The sun will come out tomorrow and the curtain will rise on Dutcher Middle School’s production of the classic musical “Annie.”

Opening Thursday, the musical stars eighth-grader Kendall Trevethan as “Annie” and features a cast of 40 students and one dog.

The cast has been rehearsing the beloved show since September and Trevethan is expecting all that practice to pay off come show time.

“It’s been a lot of work,” she said. “I think everybody is going to like it. It’s going to be a great show.”

“Annie” is the story of the Depression era plucky orphan, who in her search to find her parents, thwarts an assassination plot, foils a murder scheme, meets President Franklin Roosevelt, and finds a new home with her wealthy benefactor. The musical is based on the original comic strip, “Little Orphan Annie.” It opened on Broadway in 1977 and won a Tony for Best Musical.

Dutcher’s show opens at 7 p.m. Thursday. Additional shows are set for 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. All shows are in the performing arts theater at Turlock High School.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the school’s front office at 1441 Colorado Ave. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
