Turlock Express surge past Sacramento

POSTED November 27, 2012 7:44 p.m.

The Turlock Express hosted the Sacramento Surge on Saturday in the fourth match of the 2012 Professional Arena Soccer League season. With a dominating first half scoring effort, the Express (2-2) notched their second win with an 8-5 victory over the Surge (0-4).

“We really didn’t know what they were going to have or show,” Turlock’s head coach Art Pullido said. “It doesn’t matter who we play though, we always try to prepare like we’re playing the best team every week.”

Turlock’s preparation was on display in the opening minutes of Saturday’s match. After only 1:40 of regulation time, Turlock’s Ivan Campos put his team on the board with a line drive goal. Turlock added three more goals in the next five minutes off the feet of Samuel Saldate, Martyn Arista, and Armando Martinez. Another Campos goal and an Armando Martinez and Bronil Koochoie score made it 7-1 at the half.

“We move the ball around and play unselfish,” Pullido said.

Turlock’s offensive attack slowed in the second half with Sergio Sousa providing Turlock’s last goal of the night.

“They clamped down on defense in the second half,” Pullido said of the Surge.

Turlock must now continue their rise through the Pacific Division on Friday when they host the Anaheim Bolts (3-1). After going 4-0 at the beginning of last year, the Express are trying to recover from their two losses that opened this season.

“It’s not the worst place to be in but I expected our record to be better,” Pullido said.

Friday’s match will be held at the Turlock Indoor Soccer Arena and is expected to start at 7 p.m.
