Candidate forums set for Turlock

Chamber hosts elected official discussion on Wednesday

With the November election fast approaching, local organizations are hoping to get information about the issues and candidates to the public through upcoming forums.

The Turlock Chamber of Commerce will host a forum with local legislators from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. today at Latif’s restaurant, 111 N. Golden State Blvd.

Attending will be U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Turlock), State Sen. Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres), and Assemblywoman Kristen Olsen (R-Modesto). Stanislaus County Supervisor Vito Chiesa will also attend, and Turlock Mayor John Lazar will emcee.

The event will start with an approximately 45 minute discussion between the elected officials, followed by a meet-and-greet. The forum is open to the public, with free coffee and pastries available.

The League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County will host two candidate forums in Turlock and an informational session on the pros and cons of ballot propositions.

A forum for the candidates for Congressional District 10 — Jeff Denham and Jose Hernandez – will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday in Snider Hall on the campus of California State University, Stanislaus.

A forum for the candidates for Turlock City Council will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Turlock City Hall Council Chambers.

A non-biased presentation on the 11 propositions on the November ballot will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 16 in Mary Stuart Rogers Building, Room 130, on the campus of California State University, Stanislaus.
