A 54-year-old man is facing drunken driving charges after causing a crash that injured his passenger Saturday in Turlock.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday the Turlock Police Department was notified of a collision in the 1900 block of Lander Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ramiro Rodriguez Zamudio, had been driving at a high rate of speed coming off the Highway 99 exit and lost control of his vehicle, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The vehicle spun up onto the center median and struck a tree before veering off the road and hitting a sign at the Jack-in-the-Box restaurant.

The female passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries from the air bag deploying, according to the police report. No other injuries were reported.

A preliminary test showed Zamudio’s blood alcohol level to be over the legal driving limit of .08.

Zamudio was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
