Collision west of Turlock kills one, injures another
emergency

A Patterson man was killed and an Atwater woman seriously injured in a suspected drunk driving crash that happened Saturday night, west of Turlock.

Homero C. Sanchez, 64, of Patterson was identified as the deceased. The California Highway Patrol said Sanchez is believed to have been driving under the influence when his vehicle collided head on with another car around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Crows Landing Road, south of Monte Vista Avenue.

Sanchez was driving a 2006 Honda Civic north on Crows Landing Road.

A motorist not involved in the crash told CHP investigators that the Honda Civic drifted into the oncoming lane. That motorist was able to avoid a collision by veering out of the way.

Sanchez continued driving in the opposite lane and struck a 2014 Land Rover Range Rover head on, according to the CHP.

The Civic was traveling at an estimated speed of 45 to 50 miles per hour at the time of impact.

Sanchez was rushed to Doctors Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the Range Rover, Mariel E. Castaneda, 26, of Atwater sustained serious injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
