A Turlock man wanted by the Merced County Sheriff’s Department for narcotics violations, was arrested Tuesday in Delhi.

John Canyon, 50, was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Tuesday by the Agricultural unit of the department’s STAR team after they found narcotics hidden in a deodorant can, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

Canyon was wanted by the sheriff’s department on a no bail warrant for narcotics sales. A tip led them to a house in Delhi and when the deputies arrived, Canyon fled from the home into a trailer in the 16000 block of Letteau Avenue in Delhi, MacKenzie said.

“They immediately surrounded the trailer and Canyon complied with orders to exit the trailer since he had no where to go, and was on active probation,” MacKenzie said.

A search of the trailer turned up several methamphetamine smoking pipes, and some methamphetamine and marijuana hidden in a deodorant can, MacKenzie said.

Canyon was booked on new charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and remains in the Merced County Jail without bail.
