A robber who used a golf club to take a man's cell phone, was arrested by the Turlock Police Department on Monday.

The suspect was identified by the department as Nicolas Paul Turner, 19. He was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

The robbery was reported to the police department at 1:57 p.m. Monday and occurred in the 600 block of Pedras Road.

The victim told the police that a man had taken his cell phone while he was at the park. When he confronted the suspect, Turner allegedly swung a golf club at him, narrowly missing him, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

The victim followed Turner to a nearby gas station and had a passerby call the police to report what had occurred.

Officers arrived at the scene and located Turner, who matched the description provided by the victim. Turner also was in possession of the victim's cell phone, Parmley said.

Turner was taken into custody without incident.
