A man who police suspect previously tried to ship drugs across the country, was arrested Monday morning.
Luis Flores, 20, was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on narcotics charges said Turlock Police Lt. Ron Reid.
Police believe Flores attempted to mail a suitcase of marijuana to New Jersey. The suitcase was taken to a shipping company on May 7 and the suspect paid cash to have it shipped overnight. The package was intercepted because employees became suspicious about it and contacted the police department. With officers watching, the employees opened the suitcase and found 19.35 pounds of marijuana, Reid said.
Investigators followed up with the name and address the suspect left, but both turned out to be false, Reid said. Authorities in New Jersey were contacted as well.
On Monday Flores came into the same shipping store with a suitcase to be sent out. The employees recognized him as the same man from the previous time and contacted the police department. Flores was taken into custody as he was leaving the parking lot of the store.
The package he was shipping out contained a white powder that is suspected of being an ingredient in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. The substance was sent out for testing, Reid said.
