Turlock Police officers responding to a call of a suspicious person ended up arresting a man walking around with a shotgun.

Officers were called to the 1000 block of Geer Road around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when a caller reported a suspicious person carrying a duffle bag.

The officers found 37-year-old Matthew Arraiz carrying a duffle bag in the area. According to the police report, Arraiz ignored the officers and continued walking.

Officers caught up to Arraiz and detained him, but he was no longer in possession of the duffle bag.

The duffle bag was found a short time later. It had been tossed over a fence, according to the police department.

Inside the duffle bag was a loaded short-barreled 12-gauge shotgun.

Arraiz has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to Stanislaus County Superior Court records.
