A Stanislaus County jury convicted a Massachusetts man for sexually assaulting a woman working as a clerk at a Turlock hotel.
District Attorney Jeff Laugero announced on Tuesday that Osman Mukhammadiyev, 32, of Massachusetts, was convicted by jury of forcible rape and false imprisonment. Under California law, the suspect is facing almost nine years in prison.
This conviction stems from a sexual assault that occurred on May 6, 2022. On that day, the suspect checked into the Days Inn Hotel located in Turlock. While in his hotel room, the suspect called the front lobby and requested the front desk clerk come to his hotel room to fix the television and internet connection.
This call was a ruse to draw the clerk into the hotel room. When the victim entered the hotel room, the suspect forced her onto the bed and sexually assaulted her, according to the district attorney’s office.
The assault continued until the victim managed to fight the suspect off and call 911.
Officers with the Turlock Police Department quickly responded to the hotel. Upon arrival, officers detained the suspect who was trying to gain entry into the hotel lobby where the victim had fled to and locked as she waited for help.
During the investigation, the suspect admitted to calling the clerk to the room and touching her on the hips but denied the sexual assault.
A sexual assault exam and DNA testing confirmed the sexual assault.
Deputy District Attorney Vita Palazuelos prosecuted this case on behalf of the People. The Turlock Police Department investigated this crime and apprehended the suspect.
