Mother, son jailed for theft

A mother’s attempt to get her son out of a shoplifting arrest ended with both of them arrested for petty theft.

According to the Turlock Police Department, Evan Rice, 23, was observed taking a watch by Kohl’s loss prevention agents and was detained.

As loss prevention agents spoke with Evan Rice, his mother, 56-year-old Cheryl Rice entered the scene.

Cheryl Rice allegedly told the loss prevention agents the watch belonged to her son. She then proceeded to take the watch and the pair left the store, according to the police report.

Both mother and son were located by Turlock Police officers and arrested for petty theft.
