A Hilmar man sustained serious injuries when his motorcycle was struck by a Honda on Highway 165 Saturday afternoon.
Melo Toste Correia was driving a 2002 Kawasaki ZX600 southbound on Highway 165 around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. According to the California Highway Patrol, witnesses said the motorcycle was traveling at an estimated 80 miles per hour and had been passing other vehicles.
A 1999 Honda Accord, driven by a 76-year-old Hilmar woman, was northbound on Highway 165, south of Fowler Road.
The Honda had slowed and was turning left when it struck the motorcycle.
The CHP said the motorcycle continued forward about 80 feet before it struck a cable box. The impact of that collision threw Toste Correia another 200 feet. He suffered serious and life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a Modesto hospital.
The 76-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.
Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision.
