A report of a man brandishing a firearm during a fight led to the Turlock Police Department arresting one man on multiple weapon violations and the recovery of a loaded handgun.

Around 8:45 a.m. Thursday the police department received a report of a fight in progress in the area of Kenwood Avenue and Wayside Drive. The reporting party said one of the men involved in the fight was brandishing a firearm.

The responding officers found a group of men standing outside a home in the 1000 block of Kenwood Avenue.

As the officers were making contact with the men, one of the subjects, later identified as Frank Martinez, 24, broke away from the group and started running away, according to the police report.

An officer responding to the scene spotted Martinez running in the area near N. Olive Avenue. The officer chased after Martinez on foot and he was apprehended in a short amount of time.

Officers retraced the path that Martinez had run during the pursuit and found a loaded handgun that Martinez is suspected of throwing down during his attempt to flee.

Martinez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, resisting arrest and a parole violation. At the jail a thorough search revealed Martinez was in possession of narcotics and a charge of bringing narcotics into a correctional facility was added, according to jail records.
