The body of a murder victim was found Wednesday underneath a bridge near Snelling, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.
The victim has not been identified as of yet and the sheriff’s department is awaiting information from a fingerprint scan, sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie said.
The victim is a Latino man and showed obvious signs of foul play, MacKenzie said.
The body was found on LeGrange Road about three miles north of Merced Falls Road in Snelling. The victim was discovered in a creek around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday by a passerby who had stopped in the area to take some scenic photos.
It’s unknown how long the body had been in the creek, but it did not show many signs of decomposition, according to the sheriff’s department.
The sheriff’s department has not released information about the cause of death.
The death is being investigated as a murder and makes for Merced County’s third homicide for the year.
