Reckless driver apprehended

A 39-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he was witnessed driving through red lights while asleep behind the wheel, according to the Turlock Police Department.

According to the police report, Bret Gerard fell asleep behind the wheel and was seen running red lights, shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday. An officer attempted to pull Gerard over, but he failed to yield.

Gerard eventually did come to a stop in a driveway, but refused to comply with the officers orders, the police report states.

Gerard proceeded to back up his vehicle and in doing so, struck the patrol car behind him, the TPD reported. Gerard was stopped in the roadway and officers forced him from his vehicle and took him into custody.

Gerard was arrested on suspicion of failure to yield, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
