A Turlock couple had their night out end on a sour note as one was arrested for possession of stolen property and the other was booked for a narcotics charge.

The downturn in their night began shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday when a Turlock police officer checked the registration of a motorcycle parked outside Chili’s at 2801 Countryside Dr.

The motorcycle came back as a stolen vehicle, according to the police report.

The officer waited in the area and saw a man and woman leave the restaurant and approach the motorcycle. The officer made contact with the pair as they were putting on their helmets.

The man, identified as 46-year-old Paul Smith was on active probation. He was detained and later arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property.

The woman, Thalia Gunkel, 42, was also on active probation. A search of her turned up methamphetamine and she was arrested on suspicion of narcotic possession.
