A birthday party in Keyes looked more like a scene from the wild west when neighbors took up arms against one another.
One 29-year-old man was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound from a bullet that grazed the back of his head, said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Capt. Tim Beck.
The shoot-out occurred in the 4100 block of Anna Avenue in Keyes, shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday.
The victim was attending a birthday party at one of the residences and became involved in a verbal dispute with three Latino men standing outside a  of a home a few addresses down, Beck said.
The yelling escalated to the point where one of the Latino men pulled out a gun and started firing at the victim, Beck said.
When the victim was hit, he fell to the ground and his own gun fell out of his pocket, Beck said.
According to the statements from the witnesses at the second residence, the victim’s wife picked up the gun and started shooting at them. Beck said the wife told the sheriff’s deputies that they were still being shot at and she returned fire to protect her husband.
No arrests have been made. The three Latino men, including the suspected shooter, were last seen driving away in a gold colored Toyota.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Sgt. Brandon Kiely at 525-7072 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
