An off duty Turlock Police sergeant found a 2-year-old girl walking alone along a busy Turlock intersection Tuesday night.

The toddler was rescued from her foray away from home unharmed. One or more adults responsible for her well-being could be facing neglect charges, according to the police department.

Around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Sgt. Neil Cervenka spotted the young girl following after a dog in the area of Fulkerth and Tully roads.

Investigators were able to determine the child lived at a home in the 1700 block of Logan Lane, which is a few blocks from where she was found.

Two other children, including a 1-year-old were found at the home, with the door ajar, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

One adult was found asleep at the home. He told the police a teenage girl was supposed to be watching the children. The teenager was not at the home, Lewis said.

No arrests were made at the time. The case has been forwarded to the Stanislaus District Attorney’s Office and they will determine if neglect charges should be filed against any or all of the adults residing at the home.
