One of the Turlock Police Department's newer K9 officers, Bravo, and his handler Officer Donna Anthieny helped capture a suspect who had led police on a pursuit in a Turlock neighborhood.

The suspect, James Soto, 55 was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, hit and run and burglary.

The incident began around 10:35 a.m. Sunday when police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Shawnan Drive for a call of a court order violation in which Soto was named as the suspect.

Soto was not located on Shawnan Drive, but was found in the 100 block of N. Walnut Road. Officers attempted to make contact with Soto, but he fled in a vehicle, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley.

"Officers pursued him to a cul-de-sac where Soto sideswiped a parked vehicle to get away from pursuing officers," Parmley said.

Soto’s vehicle was located abandoned on Rainer Way and the pursuit was terminated.

K9 Bravo was brought to the area and using an article of clothing belonging to Soto, the dog was able to track his scent to the backyard of a residence, where Soto was found hiding. He was taken into custody without further incident.
