A verbal altercation between three men escalated to a violent assault when one man was struck with a piece of lumber.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries from the assault, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

The Turlock Police Department took two men into custody for the assault.

The incident was reported at 11 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of W. Monte Vista Avenue.

The victim, a 28-year-old man, had been in a verbal argument with Everett Wagner, 21, and Antonio Pina, 34, over an unknown issue. At some point Wagner allegedly picked up a 2x4 board and struck the victim with it. Pina then allegedly punched the victim, according to the police report.

Wagner and Pina were both taken into custody at the scene. Wagner was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and Pina was arrested on suspicion of battery.
