The Turlock High 2023 Homecoming Queen candidates answered a few questions before their royal debut. Turlock will be taking on Modesto High in the Bulldogs’ homecoming football game on Friday. The Queen will be crowned during halftime.

 

Shaylan Roy-Williams

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Varsity girls soccer, Track & Field, member of Kitchens for Change, Block T club, THS Diabetes Awareness club. Outside of THS, I participate on two competitive soccer teams, help at elementary school activities, nurseries and personal soccer training for kids.

What is something you are thankful for? I am thankful for my parents and how they've provided me with such amazing experiences through traveling

What is your biggest accomplishment? My biggest accomplishment is signing with a soccer team in London when I was 14.

 

Justine Piro

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Drum major for THS Marching Band, member of Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Officer for NAMI Club and member of THS Assyrian American Club. I am an active member in the ACOE Mar Zaia youth group, Assyrian Church of the East dance group. I love spending time with family and friends and cooking and baking traditional Assyrian food with my grandma.

How would your friends describe you? Extrovertive, caring, sociable, friendly, outgoing, thoughtful of others, and a leader.

What is something you are thankful for? Thankful for my supportive family, caring friends, and the kind people I surround myself with in, and outside of school.

 

 

Madison Simmons

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Varsity Cheer, Link Crew leader, member of Kindness Club, FFA and ASB. I also do community service for Sacred Heart Church/Knights of Columbus, Saint Vincent De Paul, Young Ladies Institute and a member of New Life Youth Group.

 

 

Lexie Franco

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Varsity girls basketball, member of HOSA and FFA. I love to be outside, arts and crafts and usually with my friends.

Who is your hero and why? My hero is my mom, she's been through so much and still is able to push through anything.

Who is an adult at school that you know you can count on? One adult that I can count on in school is Mrs. Lugo. She's the most caring person and will be there for anyone, no matter what.

 

 

Nathaly Dagio

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Member of THS advanced class Madrigals. My family and I have been involved in our local catholic church, Sacred Heart, donating to both the church and school. I like to help out the community with my family and I often help out my grandparents, who are local and well-known street vendors. Everyone who knows me know my passion for art; I've participated in our school's art showcase last year and my paintings have won first place two years in a row in the Stanislaus County Fair. I also have a small business of taking art commissions for four years now.

What is something you are thankful for? I'm very thankful for my support system because without them, I would have never taken this opportunity.

What is your biggest accomplishment? My biggest accomplishment is accepting the title of being a homecoming queen nominee because I never thought I would put myself out there and being involved in such an amazing tradition. I definitely surprised myself.

 

 

Bianca Mendoza

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Member of Kindness Club, FFA, NAMI and HOSA. Involved at Sacred Heart Church and the youth group. I love spending time with my friends, family and being outdoors. 

Who is your hero and why? My hero is my mom, because she has always supported me and led me into the right direction in life.

What do you like most about school? Something I love most about school is being able to explore my knowledge and being able to be involved in clubs and after school activities.

 

 

 

Zefyra Mazuelos

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Drama club, Link Crew leader. I also volunteer for Sierra Vista Child and Family Services and take ballet.

What is something you are thankful for? Something I'm thankful for is my sisters and my parents.

What celebrity would you want to be your best friend? I would love to be best friends with Taylor Swift <33

 

 

 

Nienebra Varani

Clubs & activities you are involved in? ASB, Speech and Debate, Choir, Assyrian Club. Secretary of a non-profit organization, Assyrian Aid Society.

How would your friends describe you? "Nienebra is kind-hearted with the purest of intentions. Her focus consists of those around her, and in efforts to bring everyone at least one smile a day." – Nikkie

Who is an adult at school that you know you can count on? I can always count on Mr. Stillman and Jen Cullum for being there and encouraging me.

 

Ashely Barker

Clubs & activities you are involved in? Member of THS Concert Choir, Madrigals and Pink Ladies. I am also in involved in Mar Alto (Portuguese Folklore Dance Group) and Lifeteen youth group.
