Assemblyman Adam Gray offers free help in filing taxes

It’s April 1, which means the days left to file taxes before the deadline are becoming fewer and fewer.

In an attempt to mitigate the stress and confusion often brought on by the task, Assembly member Adam Gray (D-Merced) is offering a Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program.

Aimed at helping individuals with household incomes of $53,000 or less, the VITA Program provides free tax services and participants can take advantage of the help by making their way to one of two locations in Modesto and Merced. The program is available to Gray’s constituents as well as other local residents.

“This offers an opportunity for people who need help with their taxes and this is what the State should be doing,” said Gray.

To participate, schedule an appointment with Gray’s office by calling 726-5465 and bring necessary documents to the appointment.

The first session will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Maddux Youth Center located at 615 Sierra Dr., in Modesto. The second session will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Boys and Girls Club of Merced located at 615 W 15 St., in Merced.
