History of business:

In the span of just four years, Turlock resident Victoria Jensen has developed her passion for teaching others about health and fitness into a full-fledged business through her new downtown gym, Victorious Fitness, which has helped the community find motivation and confidence since opening last month.

Located on East Main Street, Victorious Fitness has always been a dream of Jensen’s, she said. Growing up in a family that encouraged healthy living, Jensen made it a priority to achieve fitness goals of her own after having her first child six years ago. Finding success in the gym, she began to help those around her and discovered she had a knack for personal training.

“People around me would ask me for advice and help, and that’s where I found that it was a passion for me to help others with something I had just achieved myself. It’s not always something that’s taught at home like it was for me,” Jensen said. “The reward is what I feel when I see others achieve their goals — the confidence level, the strength they build.”

Jensen began training others regularly in 2014, working as a freelance trainer in several other gyms and building both her clientele and brand through social media. The end game all along was to open her own gym, she said, and downtown Turlock was her number one choice for a location.

“It would’ve been very easy for me to seek out a warehouse a little further out, but I really wanted to be downtown. I wanted to be in the heart of Turlock because I feel like my gym is more of a community-based gym,” she said. “This is my way of giving back to Turlock.”

Victorious Fitness offers two different programs: Barbell Babes, a weight training focus, and HIIT n’ Weights, a cardio-centric workout. Jensen said that her gym’s HIIT class, or High Intensity Interval Training, is set apart from others thanks to the way she incorporates weights into every session as well as the selection of unique equipment in the gym to choose from. The gym also offers one-on-one training programs, but no matter what option a client chooses, each workout is tailored to their unique needs.

“I individualize a lot of things for each person in here because I like to make things realistic for everyone that walks through the door,” Jensen said. “That way, they’re able to stick to the program and they don’t feel like they’re showing up to a generalized bootcamp every day.”

Jensen helps clients look and feel their best through not only exercise, but through beauty services at the gym’s Cocoa Glow Bar as well. Spray tans, handmade artisan soaps and moisturizers are all available through Victorious Fitness and Jensen hopes to install tanning beds soon.

“It’s all a part of that feel-good confidence,” she said.

While juggling life as a mother to two children and a trainer to countless clients hasn’t been the easiest task, Jensen had some words of advice for anyone hoping to turn their passion into profit.

“Continue the path and continue the journey no matter what gets in the way. I was planning on putting my goals aside to focus on one thing because I didn’t want to challenge myself,” she said. “Stick with your dream and your goals no matter what the circumstances are.”
