Wine and cheese make for a good pairing, but how about wine and sunshine yellow, or midnight blue or any other color of paint for that matter?

If social media is any gauge it makes for a very appealing pairing, which is great news for the Turlock Downtown Property Owners Association.

Downtown Turlock is launching their first Wine and Paint event and unlike similar events held at various restaurants this is going to be done on a grand scale.

“This is going to be a much larger event and should be a lot of fun for the people coming out,” said Downtown Turlock Director Gina Loretelli.

The event will feature a painting class for 200 people. There will also be food, and of course wine. The event is set for May 3 and will begin at 6 p.m. with the check-in at Art Space on Main, where guests can nibble on some creations from Crust and Crumb. At 6:45 p.m. the painters will stroll down to Two Guys on Broadway, where the class will be conducted and the wine will flow.

All the proceeds from the event will go towards the Association's ongoing effort to beautify downtown, particularly aiding with the flower pots and banners, Loretelli said.

“We’ll put that money away for the beautification efforts and the ongoing expenses that come with them,” Loretelli said. “We want to show off Turlock and give everyone a pretty downtown.”

Tickets for the event are $45 and they are going fast.

“Everyone has been very supportive and positive about the event,” Loretelli said. “We were close to selling out just two days after putting the tickets up for sale. We will definitely be doing another event like this and maybe one for families.”

To purchase tickets go to the Downtown Turlock Facebook page, click on the Paint and Wine Night event and then click the Paypal link for tickets. Tickets also are being sold at the Downtown Turlock office at 200 W. Main Street from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday.

The Downtown Association is also seeking a few volunteers. The volunteers will learn the painting the night before and help with instruction on the event day. For more information about volunteering, email Loretelli at: todowntownturlock@gmail.com.
