History of business: Jimmy Ebergenyi worked in the restaurant industry for 36 years before retiring. He managed vast swaths of the famed Carlos y Charlie’s chain in his native Mexico, and ran Chevy’s restaurants after immigrating to America.

But Ebergenyi’s retirement came to a sudden end when son Milo Ebergenyi announced his desire to get into the restaurant business.

“I said, ‘Hey Dad, I want to be like you,” Milo Ebergenyi said.

Jimmy and Milo Ebergenyi now work side-by-side at Milo’s Taco-Grill, which opened in Turlock earlier this summer. The restaurant is decorated with pictures of revolution-era Mexico and Ebergenyi family photos alike, recalling the roots of the unique Mexican eatery.

Business specialty: Jimmy Ebergenyi originally hails from Mexico City, an area of Mexico with its own take on staple dishes. And while the Turlock area is rife with Mexican eateries, none captured the subtleties of the Ebergenyis’ hometown favorites.

“I was sick of not having a good taco and a good torta,” Jimmy Ebergenyi said.

Milo’s Taco-Grill offers a fresh take on old standards, cooked with no lard. Jimmy Ebergenyi prides himself on the almost-gourmet quality of ingredients, and the large portions for the money.

In addition to the classics, the menu features pairings traditional to Mexico City, like al pastor – spit-roasted pork – with pineapples. Other menu items are more out of the box, like a burrito with shrimp and mashed potatoes.

The small restaurant also has numerous televisions, and intends to host videogame tournaments, building on Milo Ebergenyi’s favorite hobby.
