An elderly woman with dementia spent more than six hours outside during the night and early morning hours before being located by Turlock Police officers.

The 83-year-old woman wandered away from a family member’s home in the 1400 block of N. Tully Road sometime after midnight.

The family didn’t know she had wandered off until around 6 a.m. They reported her disappearance and the police department initiated an extensive search of the area involving patrol, detectives and administration, said Turlock Police Sgt. Neil Cervenka.

The woman was found by a patrol officer sitting on the ground in the rear of a business, shortly before 7 a.m.

“She had suffered some minor injuries from a fall and was very cold,” Cervenka said. “The officer wrapped her in a blanket and kept her warm until the ambulance arrived.”

The woman was treated at a nearby hospital.
