Motorcycle crash claims life of Turlock man

A Turlock man cruising through the mountains in Sonora was killed Monday when he lost control of his motorcycle, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deceased was identified as 60-year-old Michael Mitchell.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. Monday on Highway 120, east of Grizzly Road.

According to the CHP, Mitchell was driving his 2003 Harley Davidson at about 25 mph, headed eastbound on the highway. For an unknown reason, Mitchell lost control of the motorcycle when he entered a curve in the road.

The motorcycle rolled over and Mitchell was thrown onto the roadway. He sustained major head trauma and was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where he died from his injuries, according to the CHP.

The CHP report indicates Mitchell was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
