Two long-awaited city road projects will be underway in coming days causing road closures and detours to be in effect.
Crews are working to rehabilitate aged pavement on Hedstrom Road, near the Geer Road Starbucks, now through mid-September. Work on Hedstrom Road between Geer Road and N. Olive Avenue will consist of removal of all existing asphalt concrete surfaces, moisture conditioning and compacting existing base material, and placing four inches of new hot mix asphalt. Pavement rehabilitation on Hedstrom Road between N. Olive Avenue and Colorado Avenue will consist of grinding and removal of 1.5 inches of existing asphalt concrete and placement of 1.5 inches of hot mix asphalt.
The project scope includes construction of accessible pedestrian ramps, placement of new traffic striping, removal of concrete valley gutters and related storm drain improvements.
Dirt Dynasty, Inc., of Farmington, California, was awarded the construction contract on April 26 in the amount of $908,088.
Traffic impacts will include intermittent lane closures and road closures. Signage for detours will be in effect for road closures. Through traffic will be prohibited during road closures, though local access to residents and businesses on Hedstrom Road will be in place, except when construction equipment and operations are actively working in the affected area.
Across town, crews will also be working on the Linwood Avenue Active Transportation Program project.
The Linwood Avenue project includes road widening on the north side of the street and installation of new, curb, gutter, sidewalk, and driveway approaches.
A mid-block pedestrian activated rectangular rapid flashing beacon system will be installed to facilitate pedestrian crossings on Linwood Avenue. The project includes road rehabilitation between Lander Ave and West Avenue South consisting of removal of all existing asphalt concrete surfaces, moisture conditioning and compacting existing base material, and placing 4 inches of new hot mix asphalt.
Rolfe Construction, of Atwater was awarded the construction contract on July 27, 2021 in the amount of $726,401. Construction started back in February and is expected to be complete by June 20.

These two projects are part of the City of Turlock’s roads program initiative that aims to rehabilitate Turlock's 428 lane miles of roads, which currently have a pavement condition index of 55 out of 100, over the course of the next five years by allocating 50% of Measure A funding for the cause.
