Joey Machado was sworn in as Turlock Police Lieutenant by City Clerk Kellie Weaver while Police Chief Robert Jackson looks on during a promotion ceremony on Tuesday. Mercado’s career in law enforcement began in 1994, including 18 years with the Turlock Police Department. He has served as a Rape Aggression Defense instructor, a member of SWAT, and a K-9 handler. He also was responsible for establishing the Habitual Transient Offender program in Turlock, which aims to stop the cycle of jail and release by diverting people into the social services programs they need.
