Turlock man killed in motorcycle crash on Highway 4

A high-speed motorcycle crash near Copperopolis claimed the life of a Turlock man on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified by the California Highway Patrol as Gary Steven Ribeira Jr., 47, of Turlock.

The collision was reported at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 4.

Ribeira was driving a 2021 Yamaha R1 motorcycle westbound on Highway 4. West of Horseshoe Road, Ribeira past a CHP officer driving eastbound on the highway. According to the CHP, Ribeira was traveling at an "extremely high rate of speed."

The CHP officer made a U-turn in an attempt to make an enforcement stop on the motorcyclist.

The CHP officer lost sight of the motorcyclist, but saw a large cloud of dust as he rounded a curve in the highway.

The motorcycle had gone off the roadway, according to the CHP. The officer located the driver, later identified as Ribeira, and he had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Ribeira had been wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The CHP does not suspect that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
