History of business:
When Ali Cox started her own marketing firm in 2007 after time spent working at other, larger agencies, she knew she wanted to create a workplace that not only would provide her clients with exceptional service, but also one that’s atmosphere would make her employees want to return to work every day. Twelve years later, that dream has clearly become a reality as the agency was named one of “Inc.” magazine’s Best Workplaces for 2019.
To win the national award, Ali Cox & Company was singled out as one of the top 346 finalists out of 2,000 applicants for creating exceptional workplaces through vibrant cultures, deep employee engagement and stellar benefits. The marketing agency will be featured in the June 2019 issue of “Inc.” and as part of a prominent Inc.com feature.
“I’m really proud to be recognized on the national stage,” Cox said. “It’s really a testament to the kind of corporate culture we want to work within, and my inspiration for that culture is to create a work atmosphere that I would want to come work in also.
“I know that the agency world by design is very fast-paced with a lot of details. I think in that way we have those normal challenges, but have created a safe place to do our best work as individuals and also collectively as a team.”
The application process was an extensive one, Cox added, noting that Inc. asked questions that focused on the business’ perks, ability to foster life-work balance and other topics, like benefits. Ali Cox & Company does its best to make sure employees get the most out of not only their work days, but their lives, providing paid time to go on walks and off-site trips, yoga in the office and generous holiday vacations.
“I think it’s the right way to do business. If I’m expecting my employees to do their best and bring a part of themselves to the workplace, it’s my job to create an atmosphere that’s enjoyable and where we all want to come together,” Cox said. “It’s very team-related, and every person on the team matters.”
According to Cox, investing in both her business and her team of employees as a whole has helped Ali Cox & Company thrive.
“I’ve seen a proven ROI [return on investment], which makes me feel like I want to keep doing it and create an environment that most of our employees thought they could only find in the Bay Area, but they can actually find it in Turlock because I believe in them,” she said.
