Charan was born in India in 1932 to Guras and Mahen.  He worked in India as a farmer before coming to the United States in 1979, with the rest of his family following in 1981. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Swarn Kaur. He is survived by his children, Kulwant S. Masuta of Livingston, Balbir S. Masuta of Livingston, Manjit K. Singh of Los Angeles and Ranjit Singh of Livingston; siblings, Chaman Kaur of India and Sheneger Singh also of India; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. 

Viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 17 at Allen Mortuary.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18 at Allen Mortuary. Cremation will follow the service.
