Visitation for Dennis Silva, 68, of Turlock, will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Allen Mortuary. Rosary will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 10. A mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He died Sunday at Emanuel Hospital.
Dennis was born in Modesto on June 26, 1941. He attended Monte Vista Grammar School and then Turlock High School. During high school he worked at the local Texaco Gas Station on Golden State. Friends and family would stop by to hang out with him. After graduation, he went to work for Hansen’s Heating and Air. This is where he got his start in the business. While working full time, he found time to volunteer for the Turlock Police Reserve. He was a reserve officer for over 10 years.
He got married in 1962, and started a family in 1964, with the birth of his daughter Dennette. He was blessed again in 1966, with the birth of his son Dan.
In 1970, after working for Hansen’s for over 10 years, he branched out on his own and started the well known business Custom Air. He ran this business with the help of both of his children for over 40 years. During those years he juggled his new business and all the activities that his kids were involved with. This included Turlock Horsemen’s, 4-H and FFA. One of his favorite activities was truck pulling with his son. His most recent interests included barbecuing for family and friends and camping.
He was always the one you could call for a helping hand. He tried to retire in 2006 with the closing of Custom Air, but just couldn’t do it. He then started his current venture, Sunset Hearth and Home. He recently became involved with an R.V. Club which he really enjoyed. In 2005, he became a grandpa for the first time. She was his pride and joy. Her name is Demi (daughter of Dan and Deserie Silva). He loved to watch her swim and ride the quad he got for her.
Dennis is survived by his daughter, Dennette and her fiancé, Don; son, Dan and his wife, Deserie; granddaughter, Demi; sister, Clara Enos; companion, Renee Allen; step bothers, Joe and Lionel Gomes; and step sister, Adeline Wynns.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Silva-Gomes; brother, Ray Silva; step brother, Henry Gomes; and step sister, Mary Lou Bradley.
