Elsie Charles slipped away and entered her eternal home with Jesus with her family by her side.  

Born in Fort Sumner, N.M. she lived there until marrying P.W. Hall in 1936.  They soon moved to California and eventually settled in Ceres where she raised her family.  She was an active mom who was PTA president and Brownie troop leader.  Elsie was an accomplished seamstress who sewed numerous items from straight skirts to ball gowns for her daughters. 

For 18 years she worked in sales at Hammetts and made many friends. At 59, she married a childhood friend, Joe Morgan Charles and moved to the San Diego area.  She gained five stepchildren, Carol Charles, Bill Charles, Jo Francis Scott, Joy Reed and Don Charles and eventually many grandchildren.  

 Elsie and Joe returned to Turlock about 1990, where she cared for him until his death in 1995. Recently, she resided at Covenant Village in Turlock and loved every minute of it.  She and many friends shared meals, movies, church services, and crazy card games together.  

She lived a long, full life with a smile and optimism.  She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Doberenz and Emma Doberenz Plake; brother, Kenneth Doberenz; sister, Esther Brown; infant twin daughters, Lorna June and Norma Jean Hall; first husband, P.W.Hall; and second husband, Joe Morgan Charles. 

She leaves her daughters, Deane Nance of Modesto and Pat (Daryl) Morrow of Turlock; grandchildren, Kelli (Ted) Thorp, Alisa Ainslie and Jeffrey Elwess; and great grandchildren, Brannon, Justin, Bethany, Devin, Raleigh and Christian.  

Services are entrusted to Allen Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 at Allen Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4 at Covenant Village.
