Gilbert Garcia, 65, of Ceres, passed away at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto on Dec. 9. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14 at Allen Mortuary. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hughson, followed by burial at Ceres Memorial Park.
Gilbert was born in Cottonwood, Ariz. and moved to California as a toddler. The family lived in Mendota and then Livingston, where Gilbert worked for many years as a laborer in the agricultural fields. He later worked on the custodial staff at the Selma Herndon School in Livingston. Gilbert was known as a happy person who loved to joke with friends. He loved his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was always a loyal fan of the family members when they were involved in sporting events.
Gilbert is survived by sons, Gilbert Jr. (Alicia) Garcia of Ceres, Eddie (Tina) Garcia of Livingston and Michael Garcia of Hilmar; brothers, Ray (Clara) Garcia of Turlock, John (Rosacelia) Garcia of Denair and Steve Garcia of Turlock; sister, Fermina Jaramillo of Turlock; and grandchildren, Raena, Jordan, Nicholas, Alexia, Alyssa and Kiana. He was preceded in death by his companion of 20 years, Myrtle Holley, who passed away in June of 2009.
